Please send personal reflections, experiences, quotes, pictures, videos, artwork, concert programs, and messages to DavidBargMemorial@gmail.com

In addition to bringing us comfort, these will help us to assemble materials for his 2024 Celebration of Life in Omaha, and to proliferate his learner-centered approach, Ignite Response.

Further information about how his musical teaching legacy will continue to be available will be made available. Your contributions are deeply appreciated.

On the morning of February 25th, 2023 David Arthur Barg left his earthly home. He passed peacefully after triumphantly sending elements of his Ignite Response Book to the first editor. David’s love that touched and inspired so many of us expanded beyond the capacity of his physical heart to contain the magnitude of his spirit. We are devastated at his sudden departure.

Beyond his career as youth music educator, David was an accomplished musician and concert flutist, and a trainer of professional symphony conductors. He was an unconditionally loving father and friend. More details of his musical career will soon be posted here when his obituary is complete.

He changed our lives when he was here, and continues to teach through his passing.

Past Celebrations of the Life of DAVID BARG

March 6th, dawn

For those who were touched by David / Maestro / Mr. Barg who would like to send any words, please email a letter / note (one word or 10 pages, no min or max) and it will be brought to Long Beach, NY, where it will be placed in his box, near his heart, for cremation. He would have said that he's already with you in all the ways you know, but if you have a desire to connect, to send a smoke signal, any unfinished business etc... this is one of the myriad ways. He can hear your stories and prayers. He can see your candles and tears. This is for us - a way to communicate with him in unison. There will be other opportunities; individually in your practicing, but especially at the Omaha Conservatory of Music, on June 10th. Please record and send anything you're doing in his honor. Should you wish your letter to remain confidential, please add "confidential" to the subject line and it shall not be read but forwarded to the funeral director and deleted.) March 18th,

1pm THE REDEEMER
30-14 Crescent Street Astoria, NY 11102

Words and classical music by friends and family. There will not be a mass or service - this 160 year old, inclusive sanctuary was chosen to host a spiritual gathering for a Jewish man open to all faiths, including the later scriptures at the end of his life.

PARKING: The lot is used for both The Redeemer and Mount Sinai. It is a 2 minute walk to the church (on the same street)

SUBWAY: 6 minutes walking distance from the 30th Avenue stop on the N/W train (walk west on 30th Avenue, turn left on Crescent Street, 1 corner down).

There is no mask requirement, but ample room in the church for those who would like to social distance. Those of all faiths and ages are welcome.

3pm LOVE DRUM
32-30 Steinway Street Astoria, NY 11103

Join us for a continuation of the celebration; refreshments, music-making, story-telling, endless chocolate, and merriment “al niente,” as he would have adored. There is no limit on our time in this living-room style venue which has a heated garden and private café.

PARKING: Municipal parking 4 minutes walking distance (1 block) 31-30 Steinway St, Astoria, NY 11103

SUBWAY: 2 minutes walking distance from the Steinway Street stop on the M / R train. You will see us when exiting the subway.

For those joining us at The Redeemer, Love Drum is a 7 minute drive (20 minute walk) - there will be several cars and I am happy to shuttle anyone coming on public transportation. We are happy to stay and visit with anyone who would like to stay late. This Saturday is also the 15th Anniversary of our family chocolate company, which David contributed to with his inspired writing and taste-testing.
